Among the many record labels to have sprung up during the golden age of hip-hop, very few released as many influential and acclaimed records as Cold Chillin', a record imprint born out of the many collaborations with producer Marley Marl and the Juice Crew. In its prime, from 1988 to 1993, Cold Chillin' were responsible for a slew of major golden age records, including MC Shan's Down By Law, Biz Markie's The Biz Never Sleeps, Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo's Live And Let Die, and even a pre-Wu-Tang Clan GZA debut Words From The Genius. Though the label shuttered its doors in 1998, the albums Cold Chillin' released have long stood the test of time, and continue to inspire newcomers and seasoned hip-hop heads alike.
